February 2026 Individual Due Dates

February 2026 individual tax reminders are here. This article covers estimated tax options, tip reporting rules and W-4 exemption deadlines.

February 2 - Individuals Who Must Make Estimated Tax Payments

If you didn't pay your last installment of estimated tax by January 15, you may choose (but aren't required) to file your income tax return (Form 1040 or Form 1040-SR) for 2025 by February 2. Filing your return and paying any tax due by January 31 prevents any penalty for late payment of the last installment. If you can't file and pay your tax by February 2, file and pay your tax by April 15.

February 10 - Employees Who Work for Tips

If you received $20 or more in tips during January, report them to your employer. You can use IRS Form 4070 or your own statement that includes your signature; name, address and Social Security number; employer’s name (or establishment’s name if different) and address; month or period the report covers, and total of tips received during that month or period.

Your employer is required to withhold FICA taxes and income tax withholding for these tips from your regular wages. You can use IRS Form 4070 or your own statement that includes your signature; name, address and Social Security number; employer’s name (or establishment’s name if different) and address; month or period the report covers, and total of tips received during that month or period.

If your regular wages are insufficient to cover the FICA and tax withholding, the employer will report the amount of the uncollected withholding in box 8 of your W-2 for the year. You will be required to pay the uncollected withholding when your return for the year is filed.

February 17 - Individuals Who Claimed Withholding Exemption

Individuals who claimed exemption from income tax withholding last year on Form W-4 must give their employer a new Form W-4 by this date to continue the withholding exemption for another year.
